As the current Michigan Simmental Association Secretary-Treasurer, Sandra Fiegel has provided many years of dedicated service to the Michigan Simmental Association and the Simmental cattle breed.
Sandra initially became a member of our association while operating Fiegel Simmentals with her husband, Richard Fiegel. After Richard’s death, Sandra continued active involvement with the Michigan Simmental Association. With more that twenty-five years of service to our association, Sandra’s loyalty is greatly appreciated by all who have had the privilege of working alongside her. Sandra has served as a great ambassador for our association, and will be recognized at the Summer Picnic with the honor of the Tiny Zehnder Lifetime Achievement Award.
We welcome your support in joining the celebration of Sandra’s service.
As this year’s host for the Michigan Simmental Association’s Annual Summer Picnic, it is with great pleasure to feature the Plank Simmental Farm in our Summer Newsletter.
As a recognized Family Centennial Farm, the Plank Simmental Farm has been well-rooted in Crystal, MI. Brian Plank reports proudly how involved everyone in the family–Oscar, Paula, Sam, Corey, Brooke, and Hunter–is with daily farming operations.
The Plank’s got their start with Simmental cattle 1982. Since that time, their herd has grown to now include 75 SimAngus cattle. They began involvement with the American Simmental Association 1982, and in 1983, became members of the Michigan Simmental Association. At present, Brian Plank serves as Michigan Cattlemen’s Association’s treasurer. For the first 14 years of its existence, Brian Plank was also consigned to the Michigan Beef Expo.
The Plank Simmental Farm is well known to many of us as the host of the annual MCA/MSU Bull Evaluation Program Sale. In fact, the farm has been involved with the MCA/MSU Bull Evaluation Program for the past twelve years. In addition to feeding our bulls and maintaining records, the Plank’s also produced the program’s highest-indexing Simmental bull and the highest-selling Simmental bull in MCA/MSU Bull Evaluation Program in 2014.
The Plank’s market their cattle private treaty as well as hosting a Club Calf Sale annually. This fall, they will be hosting their 21st Annual Club Calf Sale, which is held the first Saturday of October at their farm in Crystal, MI.
